More details are now available on some of the seven former government land sites being released for self/custom build.

The sites, which were announced by the Homes & Communities Agency (HCA), in July 2012, should deliver around 100 self build homes for the UK, supporting the government’s wider efforts to double the size of the self build sector:

{TEASER}

  • Chase Avenue, Milton Keynes – The 0.65 hectare site is considered developable for 5-10 custom build homes, in an established residential area. Site will go to market in next two months with the agent seeking a developer to establish infrastructure before parcelling into sites for self builders.
  • Wilson Road, Handford, Stoke-on-Trent –15 plots are available and will be marketed later in the year.
  • Pleasley, Bolsover (pictured above) – Outline planning for 11 units, close to site of formerly derelict colliery, which has been restored and is managed by The Land Trust as a historical building. The plots are not yet ready for market and details will be provided as soon as they are made available.

  • Upper Tuesley, Godalming – 10 self build units on 10.8 hectare site close to Milford Hospital. A bidders open day is expected to be held during September 2012. More information here.
  • Spencer’s Park, Hemel Hempstead – Planning consent is in place for 372 homes, known as Cherry Tree Lane, as part of the Spencer’s Park development site – a site partly owned by Crown Estates. Twelve plots are expected to be set aside for self build. More information here.
  • Kingsweir and Torpoint, Bristol – 15 units made available. There have been some hiccups on this site and it is likely to remarketed again soon.
  • Trevenson park, Pool, Cornwall – A minimum of 40 units planned. The HCA is currently seeking to appoint a major development (probably an organisation registered in its Delivery Partner Panel)by the end of the year. It is expected that this developer will need to link up with a smaller self build partner/enabler to deliver the self build homes.
