Self build plots earmarked for Northamptonshire scheme
Proposals have been but forward for plots for self build homes at a site in Daventry.
Developer Landform Estates, in partnership with private/social housing provider Orbit Homes, has submitted a planning application for 24 fully serviced self build plots as part of a larger development of 450 new homes at the 94-acre Mickle Well Park site (pictured above). The dwellings are likely to include a mix of apartments, bungalows and 2 to 5 bed houses.
The proposals by Landform/Orbit also include land for a new medical centre, a local shop, a community hall and landscaped public open space/woodland areas throughout the scheme. There will also be play areas, links to existing cycle and footpaths and enhanced walkways along the Grand Union Canal’s towpath.
A public consultation was held prior to the planning application to gather views from the local community. Most highlighted the importance of the form of development rather than the principle and were keen to hear about the provision of new services/facilities at the site.
Erik Pagano, Landform Managing Director, said: “A priority for us in developing our proposals has been to listen carefully to local community views and a key concern has been the provision of community infrastructure to accompany the new housing. We are confident that our plans will create a friendly and high-quality neighbourhood that takes account of the issues that were raised by local residents and the interested public.”
Custom build project begins in Oxfordshire
Meanwhile, excavation work has started at the site of a former council office in Banbury ready to lay the foundations for 15 new custom build homes.
In February this year Calthorpe House in Calthorpe Street was demolished after Cherwell District Council purchased the vacant building from Oxfordshire County Council in 2013. Since the demolition, developer Art Contracts Limited, who are based in Banbury, has been appointed to build 15 one-and-two-bedroom apartments which will be available on an affordable rent basis as part of Cherwell’s Build! programme.
The developer is expected to remain on site until July 2015 to build the apartments, allocated parking and appropriate access. In the meantime, it is expected to be joined by the apartments’ future residents who will be involved in completing tasks such as plasterboarding, the installation of kitchen units and decoration under the construction manager’s supervision.
In exchange for the work, residents will receive a £10,000 discount on any future purchase price if they decide to buy their home at a later date. All material and training will be provided and it is expected the first residents will move into their homes from August 2015 onwards.
Cllr Debbie Pickford, lead member for housing, said: “This is a prominent location within Banbury town centre which has effectively been wasted by remaining unoccupied for several years. Our Build! programme will bring this site back to life and provide the future residents with quality housing in a fantastic location which is just a few minutes’ walk from Banbury High Street.”
