Outline planning permission has been granted for a dozen self build homes in a town in south Wales.

The three-acre site (pictured) – north of St Tydfil’s Avenue, Merthyr Tydfil – features 13 serviced plots ranging in size from 300 to 900m2, large enough to host a four-bedroom detached property. The scheme will become a gated community, with roads and landscaping installed by a third party.

The land previously accommodated two buildings (Sandbrook House and Sandbrook Centre): a residential care home and day care centre, which have both now been demolished.

Plot prices are around £100,000 with end-values of the completed homes estimated to fetch £260,000-£300,000.

The applicant, who originally bought the site so his daughter could build her own home, has already received some interest and is open to hearing from other self builders.
