Group self build is an ideal route to more, better quality and greener housing, according to a new report by the Town & Country Planning Association (TCPA).

According to the TCPA, planning for a new community should be ‘inclusive, participative and representative’ and it points to group self build and self-commissioned sites as an ideal answer to the brief.

Representatives from NaSBA were invited to attend high level meetings with the TCPA and recommended self build or custom build in the plans for garden cities.

NaSBA Executive Committee member, Sally Tagg, said; “The report seeks to shine a torch on the way sustainable new communities can be delivered with Garden Cities ideologies being one of the ways this could be achieved.

“The report acknowledges that there are opportunities to achieve self build (Custom Build) on a large scale, as it is in Europe. The growth in the self build sector is set to rise and that’s why NaSBA wanted to be a contributing voice.”
