If you have an interest in seeing one of the most pro-active and impressive self build projects in Europe, then it’s time to book your flight to Holland.

{TEASER}

The National Self Build Association (NaSBA) is organising a study trip to see Europe’s biggest and most impressive self build project in the Netherlands municipality of Almere. It is the youngest city in the country, with the first home being built in 1976, and already nearly 200,000 people live there. Literally thousands of building plots are available and much of a major new town has been constructed by self builders.

The site has fascinated UK planners and urban designers, and the former Housing Minister and other MPs have been to see it and have been inspired. What’s more a new tranche of self build zones was announced for the site by the council in Almere last year. The shear scale and variety of homes that are being built there has been inspirational to the self builders who have visited, and now is your chance to see it first-hand.

The NaSBA trip will be run on 16th May 2014 and will include a visit to the council’s ‘plot shop’, a tour of several of the major sites and access to the interiors of some of the more innovative homes.
