Ideas are being developed for a new self build project in Glasgow – and its future depends on the interest of local people.
Glasgow City Council is leading the pioneering development in the west of the city and the local authority is working to assess demand and identify individuals and groups who would be interested in becoming involved.

The site in Maryhill is set to consist of 12 terraced and 10 detached homes – all of which may be offered to people to build their own homes, depending on the levels of interest.
The scheme will overlook the Forth and Clyde canal with views across the city to the Campsie Hills. It will be in an elevated position directly above the newly restored locks (pictured) and is part of an extensive regeneration project to create a contemporary urban village with shops, cafes and community facilities.
Angela Doran from Glasgow City Council said: “I’m pretty confident we’ll have enough self build interest for all the 22 homes planned. It’s just about reaching those who are interested in building their own homes as we don’t currently have a register in Scotland to determine demand.
“We are open to the development of different models of self build depending on the interested parties and viability.”
Anyone who is interested in the project – both individuals and those interested in a community collaboration – should contact Ms Doran on 0141 287 8519 or email angela.doran@drs.glasgow.gov.uk.
