Eight self build plots are set to be released by a Scottish council as part of a £1m ‘repopulation plan’ aimed at boosting the local economy.

The plots, which range in size from 440 to 790m2, sit on Leperstone Avenue, Kilmacolm and are the first release by Inverclyde Council as part of its Inverclyde Living campaign.

Plot prices have not been released. However, a similar average-sized plot sold privately in nearby Port Glasgow fetches in the region of £70,000.

In addition to releasing self build plots, the council is offering a range of incentives to new residents into the area including opportunities for council tax discounts for the first two years and the services of a relocation officer to assist with finding a home and accessing local services and properties.

The council says it is interested in self build as a way of “re-populating the area” and the site at Kilmacolm is the council “dipping its toe in the water.”

Initial enquiries for the Kilmacolm self build release are being taken via living@inverclyde.gov.uk.
