Research, from Confused.com, reveals that more than a quarter (27%) of Brits have aspirations to build their own homes – with the main motivation being to have the freedom to design it how they want. Other driving factors for self building or custom building a home include fulfilling a lifetime dream and wanting a home to be unique.
The statistics also point to a home that is equipped with more modern technologies, with over a third of the 2,000 people polled claiming that a futuristic home would be more attractive. To show what the home of the future might look like, the price comparison website has produced an interactive hub which illustrates how a home of the future might evolve.
Gareth Lane, Head of Home Insurance at Confused.com, said: ‘We’re all individuals and it’s understandable that we’d want to reflect this within our homes. Building your own home is the ultimate step towards that goal – whether you prefer a more traditional home or one with every gadget on the market.”
