112 homes in Hampshire

Two sites for a total of 112 new self/custom build homes have been earmarked in the Petersfield Neighbourhood Plan on land to the North West of the town at Bell Hill and Buckmore Avenue (pictured, above). In addition to interest from individuals, the team behind the Neighbourhood Plan is particularly keen for a community-led self build housing scheme to come forward. The draft plan stipulates that the land should be reserved for people who can demonstrate that they have a local connection. The self/custom builders will also have to live in the finished property; and they must commit to compete the construction work within two years.

The Draft Plan is expected to be formally published later this month. There will then be a formal consultation process, and a referendum of local residents at the end of the year.

22 opportunities in the Lake District

Plans have been submitted for 22 serviced self build plots at Flosh Meadows in Cleator, Cumbria. The land is owned by Richard and Betty Mulholland, who are are currently co-ordinating the ‘Flosh Meadows Self Build Group‘. Mr Mulholland told the Portal that a number of local families had already expressed an interest in building a own home on the site, which is near the Ennerdale Country House Hotel. The planning decision is expected from Copeland Borough Council by the end of July.

Former garage sites cleared for self build in Leeds

Leeds City Council is offering a number of small sites suitable for self build including land with space for up to two dwellings in Stanningley; two sites in Bramley – one on Wellington Grove with space for one to two homes and one on St Catherine’s Crescent with space for just one house; and a plot on Manor Crescent, Rothwell with space for up to two dwellings. All sites are within five miles of Leeds City Centre and expressions of interest should be made by email to james.child@leeds.gov.uk.

Self Build Opinions sought in Wokingham

Wokingham Borough Council has launched a consultation to find out whether local people would be interested in building their own homes. The council is considering a number of self build options and wants to know what local people think. Anyone interested should register via an online questionnaire. Councillor John Kaiser, executive member for general planning and affordable housing, said: “Our target will be to find suitable locations and explore the appetite for such a programme, which we believe will be substantial, within the community before the end of the summer with a view to starting the first development early next year.”
