Plans for a large scale housing development in Buckinghamshire could include a significant amount of self build homes.

The 1,100 home Aylesbury Woodlands scheme – proposed by Buckinghamshire Advantage, the operational arm of the Buckinghamshire & Thames Valley Local Enterprise Partnership (BTVLEP) – is earmarked for a 550-acre site (pictured) east of Broughton, Aylesbury, and is also set to provide commercial premises and leisure facilities.

Bucks Advantage has drawn up a development agreement with the landowner and will now seek public opinion as to how the homes should be delivered as part of a pre-application process.

Ian Barham, BTVLEP Partnership Manager, said: “There are certainly aspirations for the realisation of self and custom build homes on this site. We’ve seen the level of self build being achieved at Graven Hill and, indeed, in other areas of Bicester and, in terms of the overall concept, there could be something of a similar nature appearing at Aylesbury Woodlands.

“What we’ve picked up so far from some of the early conversations from stakeholders is that there is a significant degree of interest in allowing people to build their own home – a method which could offer something different to the existing ways of mass housebuilding and development.”

The first public consultation meeting will take place on Saturday 11th July at Anthony Hall, Aston Clinton between 10.00am and 4.00pm with a planning application likely to be submitted in the autumn.
