Mark Prisk has been appointed as the new Housing Minister, taking over from Grant Shapps.
Mr Prisk’s appointment was announced yesterday as part of the Prime Minister’s cabinet reshuffle, which saw Grant Shapps’ promotion to Conservative Party Co-Chair.
Mr Prisk, the MP for Hertford and Stortford, is a chartered surveyor by profession and prior to becoming an MP, worked in the property industry running his own consultancy business. He has held a number of parliamentary roles over the last decade, most recently as the Minister for Business, Innovation and Skills.

Welcomed by the industry
The appointment has been widely welcomed by the industry, but he has been urged to act quickly to address the issues facing the housing sector as a whole.
Ted Stevens, Chairman of the National Self Build Association, said: “We’re pleased to welcome Mark to his new role.
“We previously had a very fruitful and productive working relationship with Grant Shapps who championed the self build cause more than any other housing minister. We’re keen to develop and extend that relationship with Mark and we’re particularly excited that he has such a strong background in the construction industry. We look forward to briefing him on our plans and priorities for the self build sector going forward.”
