Plans have been revealed for a number of self build homes to appear within a large development near Wadebridge in Cornwall.

Developer Progress Land Ltd is working in collaboration with LDA Design and an as-yet unnamed major UK housebuilder to deliver the scheme of 650 homes on land in the village of Sladesbridge (pictured) – and a number of serviced self build plots will be made available on the site, giving people the opportunity to build their own home.
It is envisaged that up to 40% of the dwellings will be affordable. A new primary school, local services and facilities, employment/workspace, allotments, green infrastructure and transport enhancements is also proposed.
A spokesperson for LDA Design said: “We’re hoping the self build will form part of the scheme but we’re unsure at this stage as to what form it might appear.
“Options might see the landowner gifting some of the land to a Community Land Trust or serviced plots might be sold off to individuals. Equally, our major UK housebuilder may reserve a portion of the development for self builders.”
Initial designs and an outline planning application are currently being prepared. Pre-application consultation events are also being readied to allow the local community the opportunity to have their say on how the scheme might be delivered.
