Industry-appointed Self Build Champion, Kevin McCloud, has challenged local authority planners to become enablers supporting the government’s aim to double the number of custom built homes built in the UK each year.

In a video message shown to planners at the National Self Build Association’s series of Planners Workshops, Kevin urged planners to be inspired by examples from the past such as Garden Cities and the Plotlands initiatives, as well as visionary examples from abroad. With these in mind, planners could, he said, devise their own strategies to encourage large scale self build developments within their local authority.
