A push highlighting a series of suitable projects to enable more people to build their own homes has been put into motion by the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA).

The ten schemes have already been officially revealed, but the HCA has now launched a new drive to encourage custom builders to come forward and show their interest. The projects are being realised through the HCA’s land portfolio will collectively deliver around 290 custom build homes.

Of the projects announced in south-east England, one major development in Basingstoke has the potential for up to 120 plots for custom build homes. The Park Prewett scheme sits to the north-west of the town centre and will feature 1,250 new and affordable homes in total.

Others in the region include land for 10 custom build homes at Spencer’s Park, Hemel Hempstead, as part of a wider housing development by Barratt Homes. Plus, Goldcrest Developments has started work on five custom build homes at Chase Avenue, Milton Keynes, with a further site at nearby Oxley Park earmarked for up to 14 custom build homes by an as-yet unnamed developer, subject to planning. And 10 homes have been slated for Pound Lane South in Basildon later this year.

In south-west England, building work is set to begin on 54 custom build homes managed by igloo Carillion at Trevenson Park, Pool, Cornwall. And, at least 15 further plots have been allocated on land at Marksbury Road, Bristol, with a developer currently being selected through an open market tender.

In the Midlands, the HCA is working with the Bournville Village Trust to deliver up to ten custom build homes on two separate plots at the Lightmoor Urban Village development in Telford.

Two projects are also coming to fruition in the north of England, with work underway on the first of 25 custom build homes by Fairgrove Homes at Carr Lodge Farm, Doncaster, and, on Teesside, Middlesbrough council and the HCA are about to release 25 serviced plots for custom build homes at the Middlehaven development.

More information on each of the schemes is available on the HCA website.
