Land has been set aside for people to build their own home on one of six serviced plots released in Cumbria’s Eden District.

The plots on the one-acre site just north of the village of Melmerby will feature four three-bedroom homes and four two-bedroom apartments with prices starting at £80,000. It is understood that the flats have been valued and, once completed, will command a price of £150,000.
A consultation exercise involving nearby residents and the local authority began during the latter half of 2014 and an outline application was approved at an Eden District Council planning committee hearing last March. Work to develop roads and landscaping is set to start next month before self builders are allowed on site in January 2016.
A spokesperson for plot sales agent H&H Land and Property said: “We recently brought a number of self build plots to market on three sites in nearby Windskill and all sold within six weeks. So, we anticipate a similar level of interest for Melmerby.”
