Swedish building company Trivselhus’ ‘Future Proof Home‘ – adapted to fit with any house design on any scale – is a £350,000 showhome at the Ideal Home Show at Olympia in London which offers an idea for sustainable living.
The Trivselhus shell can be constructed and made weatherproof within a week, and a well-planned project can be completed in approximately half the average time of a conventional build – which can take over 20 weeks. All homes can be flexibly built to different sizes; from a single-storey three-bedroom 143m2 house to a large two-storey four-bedroom 277m2 property.
Each section of the building is produced in sections and constructed in layers. Mineral wool insulation, 240mm thick, is built into the closed-panel ‘climate shield’ structure at factory stage, providing a highly-insulated barrier which offers warmth in winter and keeps the home cool in summer. Triple-glazed argon-filled windows are fitted as standard, reducing thermal leakage and giving excellent overall U-values.
In December 2011, the Dunkerley family bought a four-bedroom house on the Grange Development in County Durham. The Trivselhus climate shield system and the use of an air source heat pump with underfloor heating and photovoltaic (PV) panels offset energy bills in the house by 50% in the first 12 months.
Two Trivselhus homes are six weeks from completion in Cornwall and 12 more are due to be completed at a lakeside Cotswolds development – which will also include a showhome due to open in the summer of 2015.
The ‘Future Proof Home’ is on display at the Ideal Home Show until 6th April.
