Frome Town Council is keen to encourage local people deliver more community-led self build housing projects through its new Neighbourhood Plan.

Neighbourhood Planning provides an opportunity for local people to have a say in deciding the future of where they live; in particular, how much housing is needed and the best places to build it.

The Council now wants to assess how much demand there is for self/custom build in the town, so it is organising a drop-in event for would-be self builders early next month.

Jane Llewellyn, Planning & Development Officer at Frome Town Council, said: “What we are aiming to do with the policy in our Neighbourhood Plan is to encourage more self build sites. We want to enable people to have housing that is more affordable.”

The drop-in event takes place on Sunday 2nd June at the town council offices in Palmer Street, Frome. Attendees will be able to to find out more about self/custom build, what a Neighbourhood Plan is, and may be able to meet with representatives of the Frome Co-housing Group.

Ms Llewellyn can be contacted on 01373 465757 or by email.
