Previously Mr Lewis was Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department for Communities and Local Government and is currently an active member of a number of All Party Parliamentary Groups, including those for enterprise zones and local growth.

He took to Twitter this morning to share his promotion by saying he was “honoured to be made Minister of State at DCLG”.

Mr Lewis will cover both the housing and planning briefs, replacing the current housing minster Kris Hopkins, and planning minister Nick Boles – who has been promoted to Minister of State for the Business & Education departments.
