RUSS is running a one-day workshop for community-led groups on the 17 November, the second module in its education programme.
Rural Urban Synthesis Society (RUSS) is a volunteer-led Community Land Trust based in south London, and is leading the Church Grove, Ladywell, project in south east London to build 33 homes. It will be London’s largest affordable self-build housing project.
Founded in 2009, RUSS works to create sustainable neighbourhoods and genuinely affordable homes.
As well as developing Church Grove, which recently achieved planning permission, RUSS is committed to training more people and groups to support them to deliver their own affordable, owner-commissioned homes.
From Proposal to Planning is Module 2 of the RUSS School educational programme and covers the list of actions needed to support groups taking the project from a vision to the pre-planning stage.
The day is suitable for individuals or groups wishing to develop a community-led housing project, regardless of whether or not they’ve secured a site.
The day gives an overview of the work, people, resources and finance needed.
RUSS will share its experience of the 27 months it took achieve this – reviewing barriers, mistakes and delays with a second project in mind, making this a vital learning opportunity for other groups.

While RUSS recommends having attended Module 1, it is not essential but is helpful. The next Module 1 session is Saturday 26 January 2019.
