First Choice Housing Association (FCHA) has been awarded £2.26 million from the Veterans Accommodation Fund which will go towards funding the project of 14 flats earmarked for land off Croesnewydd Road in Wrexham. A meeting was held yesterday where Wrexham Council’s executive board agreed in principle to gift the land to FCHA, subject to planning.
Former members of the armed forces will have the opportunity to gain skills and qualifications in building and associated trades as well as the opportunity to rent one of the apartments on completion.
The scheme will be managed by the Community Self Build Agency which also has similar projects running in Bristol and Plymouth.
Hilary Ryan, FCHA Chief Executive, said: “The success of our bid for funding was down to partnership working, and all parties involved are absolutely delighted that we will be able to help so many veterans in Wales whilst building on existing partnerships with military charities and local authorities.”
