Plans have been submitted for four self build homes on a one-acre site in Cumbria.

The project, earmarked for land north of Helm Bar, Melmerby, will feature four plots large enough for two three-bedroom semi-detached homes and two three-bedroom cottages – and self builders are now being sought to take on the plots.
The scheme – which will also host four apartments, completed separately for the open market – is based on a traditional farm courtyard layout and uses traditional sandstone materials. Plot prices will range between £70,000 and £120,000 – similar finished homes nearby are valued at around £225,000.
The applicant confirmed that half of the eight-unit development will be open to the self build market and remarked that “it would be great to have a group take on the project.”
