In its Policy Manifesto for 2014/15, the British Woodworking Federation (BWF) argues that “land supply and tangible incentives” for the self and custom build sector are the key to combating the undersupply of housing.
The document states that the UK has one of the lowest proportions of self built homes in Europe and suggests its self/custom build proposals should form part of a targeted long-term plan to satisfy demand for new homes.
BWF Chief Executive Iain McIlwee, in a letter to the Chancellor of the Exchequer in advance of his Autumn Statement on 3rd December, calls for a renewed focus on incentives for custom and self build and declares that releasing sites from local authority and encouraging greater investment from social and affordable housing providers will help to deliver new homes.
