Participants in self build schemes should be given priority in UK home ownership, according to a leading Conservative Party blog.
{TEASER}
The ‘ConservativeHome Manifesto‘, published this week by the Tory-supporting website ConservativeHome, calls for home ownership to be actively favoured over professional property investment by giving planning authorities the option of requiring that homes in a new development only be sold to people intending to live in them.
It proposes that this new power be exercised locally on a case-by-case basis as a condition on planning consent for new developments – and recommends that it is used specifically to help participants in self build schemes.
The statement also suggests that a ‘right to build’ measure should be limited to self builders and not become a loophole for commercial developers.
The blog hopes that its propositions will be noted not only by those who are drafting the next Conservative Party manifesto, but also other political parties too.
The full manifesto can be viewed on the ConservativeHome website.
