Planning has been approved for a number of self/custom build plots on Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) owned land to the south and east of Milford Hospital (pictured) on Tuesley Lane, in Godalming, Surrey.

Barratt Homes will be the lead developer for the scheme and will now seek to gain detailed planning consent to build a total of 120 dwellings, ten plots of which will be made available for people to build their own home.
Mark Noton, Barratt Southern Counties development manager, said: “The self build plots are likely to consist of three and four-bed houses. At this very early stage, we’re still working on a strategy as to how these will be delivered, whether it is: providing serviced plots; providing an envelope of the building that we design where people can come along and redesign it internally; or offering a ‘shell’ finish option. The probability is that all these options will be made available.
“Other divisional areas of Barratt have delivered an element of self build within projects before, but this is our first time.”
In April 2012, the HCA announced that it would put forward several of its own sites to stimulate self/custom build schemes, as outlined in its Land Development and Disposal Plan.
The hope is that this scheme will be open to self/custom builders from Spring 2014.
